Yes! New York City welcomes couples from all over the world. You don’t need to be a NYC resident to legally get married here.
Here’s how to get legally married in NYC:
Apply online for your marriage license through the City Clerk’s website.
Schedule an appointment for either an in-person visit or virtual license appointment (you both must be physically in NYC during the virtual appointment).
Bring:
- A valid photo ID
- Payment ($35 via credit card or money order)
- Your appointment confirmation
- Your online application confirmation number
Once issued, your license is valid for 60 days — but your ceremony must happen at least 24 hours after it’s issued.
Yes! If you’re planning an elopement with just the two of you, I can act as your witness at no extra cost. Just let me know in advance.
Absolutely. We offer optional add-ons to help make things easier:
- Hair & makeup styling
- Floral bouquets
- Videography
- Albums and fine art prints
We’re happy to coordinate these for you, so you can focus on enjoying your day.
From classic views to hidden gems, NYC is full of unforgettable spots for your elopement. Some of our favorite locations include:
- Central Park (Bethesda Terrace, Bow Bridge, Wagner Cove)
- City Hall or Manhattan Marriage Bureau
- Brooklyn Bridge Park
- DUMBO
- Top of the Rock
- Roosevelt Island
- West Village streets or intimate rooftops
We’re happy to suggest locations that fit your style and preferences. You’ll handle the ceremony planning and logistics, but we’re here to help you choose the perfect backdrop.
Our elopement sessions are ideal for intimate gatherings with up to 10 guests. For larger groups or micro-weddings (up to 50 guests), please reach out for a custom quote.
Absolutely — love is love. We’re proud to photograph all couples and have captured many beautiful same-sex elopements across New York City.
Our style is candid, modern, and true-to-life. We capture natural moments with minimal posing, blending photojournalism and subtle direction to help you look and feel your best.
You’ll get timeless photos that feel like you — never stiff or over-edited.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 48 hours before your session to avoid a cancellation fee. The deposit is non-refundable but can be applied to a rescheduled session within 3 months.
If rain’s in the forecast, we can either reschedule or share recommendations for indoor locations — though you’ll be responsible for coordinating any ceremony plans.
What is an elopement?
Elopements are intimate, flexible celebrations typically with 0–10 guests. They can be spontaneous or planned months in advance. What defines an elopement isn’t just the size — it’s the intention: a deeply personal way to get married without the pressure of a traditional wedding.
You can elope at City Hall, in a public park, on a rooftop, or even on a ferry — NYC is full of incredible backdrops. Whether it’s just the two of you or a handful of your favorite people, your elopement can be exactly what you want it to be.
How to elope in NYC
1. Get your marriage license
- Apply through Project Cupid.
- Schedule an appointment (both in-person and virtual available).
- You must wait 24 hours after receiving your license to legally marry.
- Bring valid ID and pay the $35 fee by credit card or money order.
2. Decide where to get married
Ceremony managed by the city:
- City Hall (141 Worth St): Quick and iconic.
Choose your own location and hire a registered officiant.
- Outside City Hall
- Central Park (Bethesda Terrace, Bow Bridge, Wagner Cove)
- Brooklyn Bridge Park or Dumbo
3. Plan the day
- Choose a photographer (hi!)
- Decide if you want hair, makeup, bouquet, or videography.
- Plan your outfits, timeline, and where you want photos taken.
City Hall vs. Outdoor Elopements
City Hall Pros:
- Fast, affordable, and classic NYC experience
- You’re legally married in 15 minutes
City Hall Cons:
- Limited to 4 guests total (including photographer)
- Appointment required, some wait time
- No personal vows or customized ceremony
Outdoor Elopement Pros:
- More freedom: choose your own location, vows, and timing
- Gorgeous photo opportunities across the city
- More guests allowed (permits may be needed in public parks)
Outdoor Cons:
- You must hire your own officiant
- More planning/logistics involved
