What Women Dislike About Men’s Profile Photos
Hello everyone! Ever wondered why finding the right soul mate seems so challenging? A recent survey released this month by Hey Saturday, the leading dating photography agency in the UK and US, reveals that a staggering 77% of women are put off by the profile photos that men post on dating apps and websites. That’s quite alarming, isn’t it? To get to the bottom of this, we surveyed just under 100 individuals across the UK and US to understand what women dislike about men’s dating profile photos. The results are in! Continue reading to find out exactly what men should avoid and what they can do better to attract more attention online.
What are the Stats?
An impressive 92% of women surveyed would quickly swipe past a man who uses a substitute for their main profile picture. Surprisingly, many men still opt to showcase pets, cars, landmarks, or other objects instead of themselves in what should be their most appealing photo. Clearly, women want to see the actual person they are potentially connecting with.
Additionally, over three-quarters (78%) of the women surveyed found mirror, gym, and bathroom selfies extremely unappealing. Similarly, drunken party photos and images that resemble police mugshots were disliked by 74% of the participants.
It was also noted that group photos turned off two-thirds (65%) of the women. Poor quality images that were blurry, out of focus, poorly lit, too distant, or overly close were a significant turn-off for 70% of the women surveyed.
In today’s era of ubiquitous photographic filters, women are becoming wary of men who overly alter their images. A substantial 85% of women are deterred by these often awkward attempts to ‘enhance’ profile pictures.
Good photos should let your personality shine through. The research also revealed the top four looks that women like to see in men’s profile pictures:
- Smiling (67%)
- Natural relaxed poses (60%)
- Visible face and nice eyes (41%)
- Full body shots (23%)
So guys, for that life-changing snapshot, it’s crucial to pick a photographer who nails the quality of your profile pictures, paying close attention to color, framing, and focus. Or, opt for a photo where you’re at your most relaxed and naturally confident. Let’s ditch the mobile phone selfies with those semi-naked, socks-on mirror shots! It’s all about showcasing the real you, no gimmicks needed.
